1.Unhealthy Eating
Indulging in junk food does more than add weight to your body; it can also age your eyes prematurely. You may therefore want to eat nutritious food containing omega-3 fatty acids as well as vitamin C and E like leafy greens, berries, citrus fruits, and carrots.
While you are at it, you may also want to quit sugar because it is not good for your eyes or body either.
2.Rubbing Your Eyes
How many times do you rub your eyes unknowingly? Probably many times. However, you want to keep in mind that this can cause your eyes to age prematurely. You see, when you rub your eyes often, you irritate the delicate skin around your eyes as well as the tiny blood vessels beneath.
Of course, this can cause sagging eyelids, dark circles, and puffy eyes.
3.Too Much Screen Time
Sitting in front of a TV or computer screen all day can negatively affect your eyes. If you do this often, you will experience frequent dizziness, headaches, and irritated eyes. You may also want to note that you blink less when you spend too much time browsing through your phone or computer screen.
This can subsequently dry out your eyes which in turn can lead to premature aging. To combat this, take frequent breaks when using your computer or phone or use anti-glare glasses.
4.Not Drinking Enough Water
If you realize that your eyes are red, dry, or puffy, chances are that they may be dehydrated. You can counter that by drinking enough water. At least eight glasses of water every day should suffice. You can increase your intake if you are extremely active or whenever you eat high-sodium meals.
5.Getting Insufficient Sleep
As adult human requires about eight hours of sleep and failure to do that can cause a myriad of health issues including memory loss and weight gain. It can also leave you with blurry vision, eye twitches, and generally prematurely aged eyes.
6.Skipping Optometrist Visits
Even if you are not experiencing any issues with your eyes, it is important to visit your eye doctor regularly. That way, they will be able to catch any potential or underlying issues and have them addressed promptly.
You also want to see your optometrist if you have any issues so that they can prescribe the right treatment. Wearing the wrong glasses or not wearing any when you should, can cause your eyes to age prematurely.
7.Smoking
Did you know that smoking could lead to serious eye-health conditions including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and cataracts? You can reduce your chances of developing such issues and walking around with prematurely aged eyes by avoiding smoking.
Bottom Line
Nobody wants to look older than they are but it does happen sometimes. You can avoid the aforementioned habits to ensure that your eyes look youthful and vibrant.
